Continue to Ayot St Lawrence to visit Shaw’s Corner, the country home of George Bernard Shaw (National Trust). Through Kimpton, Whitwell, and the Mimram Valley to Welwyn, then south via the B653 through Wheathampstead and back to St Albans. The B-roads through the Mimram Valley are perfect for a Porsche 911 GTS.

Gorhambury House is approached via a private road from the A5183, running through the estate’s parkland for approximately half a mile. The drive is well-surfaced but narrow in places with passing points — our logistics team pre-drives the approach. The house itself has a gravel forecourt with generous turning space. We coordinate arrival timing with the estate office.

Sopwell House Hotel & Spa is set in 12 acres of grounds off Cottonmill Lane. The private drive winds through mature gardens to the main entrance. Ample space for vehicle presentation at the front portico. For St Michael’s Manor Hotel, the lakeside approach is via Fishpool Street — one of St Albans’ narrower historic streets. Chiltern Hills AONB Circular (35 miles): West from St Albans through Hemel Hempstead to the Ashridge Estate. North through Aldbury and Ivinghoe to the Beacon (the start of the Ridgeway). South-east through Studham and back via Markyate and the A5183. The beechwood sections through Ashridge are among the most atmospheric driving roads in the Home Counties. A Bentley Continental GT through the dappled woodland canopy, then the escarpment views from Ivinghoe Beacon.

Ver Valley Villages Loop (15 miles): South-west from St Albans through Gorhambury Estate and past the Roman theatre of Verulamium. Through Park Street and Frogmore to How Wood. North via Chiswell Green and back to the city centre. A short but varied loop through some of St Albans’ most historic landscape.
